Life SwapI was expecting to dislike this book. Yes, I know we've all supposed to be open-minded, responsible adults, but it's got a nasty shiny emerald green cover, complete with cartoon dog and cat and twinkly stars... need I say more? With its "No One Bestseller" banner on the front, it screamed tacky chick lit.
Well, here's the surprise. I really enjoyed it. No, it wouldn't make my desert island list (though it's ideal for reading on a beach with a glass or two of chilled wine) but it was readable and the characters were engaging. And the theme was thought provoking... is life on the other side of the fence quite as green as it appears?
Well, of course it's not. But this was an entertaining look at life on the other side of the pond through the eyes of a single English career girl and an All-American yummy-mummy. When they take part in a project for a glossy magazine and swap homes, friends and family for a month, they're forced to review what they really want out of life. A tad predictable in parts but no trite everything-sewn-up ending; enough questions left unresolved at the end for you to wonder how things turned out.
A bit like real life, eh?

Just in case anyone thinks I'm colour blind, my copy really did have a nasty, shiny, emerald green cover! Not sure it looks any more attractive in pink, though....
