Sword of GodKuzneski’s ‘Sword of God’ reads like the script for a low budget, American action movie; elite soldiers brought out of retirement, a rookie assigned to the team and desperate to impress, a trained soldier gone off the rails, time running out to disable a bomb… …heard it all before?
The lead characters - and our ultimate heroes - Payne and Jones, didn’t seem to be everything they were cracked up to be either. Even with their physical prowess, superior intellect, and of course their training with the ‘MANIACS’ (don’t laugh), you still end up waiting for them to come up with the solutions you worked out several pages before.
Although there are some interesting settings, the predictable story lines, stereotypical characters and cringe worthy banter did no favours for what could have been a really gripping and sinister plot. If I’m honest, I found it difficult to take seriously. Especially when ninjas turned up on the scene… …I was half expecting a cameo role from Jackie Chan.
Although the plot of ‘Sword of God’ is based around racial tension and terrorist threats, don’t expect a challenging read. The story is actually very easy going, with characters that are so clichéd you already know them. Pull out your popcorn and enjoy this well paced action adventure, albeit a little on the trashy side.
